The Second Course
An Austin-based lecture series bringing expert-led conversations into the heart of the city.
Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had started after a lecture ended.
In graduate school, I loved sitting in rooms where a professor would guide us through a complex topic, and then we would stay. We would debate it, question it, and push each other to think more clearly. There was structure, depth, and respect for the ideas and for the room.
After graduation, I realized how rarely we gather as adults with the intention to learn and think deeply.
The Second Course reimagines how and where we learn outside of a traditional classroom. We bring expert-led conversations into the heart of Austin and offer a seat at the expert’s table in spaces built for curiosity and connection.
Why We Exist
The Second Course hosts monthly 40-minute lectures at local bars & restaurants in Austin featuring researchers, practitioners, and subject-matter experts across disciplines.
In addition to our monthly lectures, we offer:
Workshops in Austin to learn new skills and hobbies
Morning coffee gatherings designed for thoughtful conversation
Civic-focused events that connect learning to community impact
Our events are designed for curious adults seeking intellectual events in Austin that go beyond surface-level conversation.
What We Do
Be first in the room.
Guest List members receive priority access before events are announced publicly, along with occasional insights from speakers and curated resources connected to our programming.
If you want a seat at the expert’s table, this is where it begins.
